How can I get involved as a volunteer?
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Hickory Community Theatre. Below is a brief overview of the different volunteer opportunities that are available here. We have divided our volunteer help into three main groups, which are Front of House, Stage/Production and Technical:
Front of House – These volunteers are the first ones you see when coming to a show. They help out with such duties as box office, house manager, ushering and concessions. These jobs are all very easy to learn and require no experience. Christine sends out an email to all volunteers about 2 weeks before a show opens. It will list the dates and positions that are needed. These slots are available on a first come, first served basis. If you are interested and available to take a slot then just email her back with the date and job that you’d like. If it is filled then she will let you know alternate dates available. If you are interested in this type of volunteering then just send me an email to that effect and she will add you to the volunteer email list. Christine Stinson or 828-327-3855 extension 102.
Stage/Production – You can get involved either on or behind the stage by being cast in a show through auditioning or by volunteering for backstage positions like assistant stage manager, crew or helping with costumes. There is no experience required to audition for a show, just show up on the audition day! If it is a musical then you need to have a song prepared – your choice (doesn’t have to be a song from the show). The contact for these volunteers would be the Artistic Director, Pamela Livingstone and her extension is 104. She sends out audition notices by email so you can just let her know by email if you would like to receive those audition notices.
Technical – Volunteer opportunities in this area include lighting operator, sound operator, set and prop construction, set painting, running/fly operator and electrical work. The contact for these volunteers would be our Technical Director, Tony Chambers and his extension is 109. He sends out work calls by email so you can just let him know by email if you would like to receive those notices.
As you can see, there is no shortage of ways to get involved here! And the best thing about it is that you are the one who decides how much or how little you want to do. Generally we email our list of volunteers when there are jobs to be done and if you are available and are interested then you reply back to us. There are no minimum hours, any time that you have available to offer to us is so very gratefully accepted. As soon as you become involved at Hickory Community Theatre, you will understand how much goes into each and every one of our productions. You generally don’t need any prior experience, just a desire to get involved! If you are interested in any of these volunteer opportunities then contact the person(s) listed in the area(s) of your interest and we will add you to our email lists, or simply call us here at the HCT office at 828-327-3855. We would love to hear from you!
