How do auditions work?

Auditions are open to everyone! Ethnic diversity is strongly encouraged and is part of the theatre’s vision.

Auditionees will be reading from the script. Scripts may be checked out for 48 hours with a $10 refundable deposit. Please call the office at 828-327-3855 to check availability of scripts. It is highly recommended that auditionees read the script prior to auditioning.

For musicals, prepare a song you feel confident singing. Try to select a song that is the same style as the show for which you are auditioning. Melodic songs like showtunes, church music folk songs, etc, are better than jazzy pop songs. Bring sheet music, if possible. No recorded accompaniment.

There may be dancing or improvisation as part of the audition. Please dress in clothes you can move in. Please, no flip-flops. Please look carefully at the rehearsal schedule and performance dates. Being in a show at the Hickory Community Theatre requires a great time commitment. If you will only take a larger or smaller role because of your own time concerns or if you are auditioning just for the experience, WELCOME! But please let the director know your intentions.
