Join Us (And Sing): Sarah Deutsch is Zoey Chambers/Alice Woodward in THE GUY WHO DIDN'T LIKE MUSICALS

Paul Matthews is an average guy who likes pizza, movies...ya know, average guy things. But when an alien lifeforce infects his hometown, Paul finds himself in a deadly battle with one thing he knows he dislikes: musical theatre.

From Starkid Productions comes the hilarious musical horror-comedy THE GUY WHO DIDN'T LIKE MUSICALS. A love letter to B-movies and the saving power of song, THE GUY WHO DIDN'T LIKE MUSICALS plays in the Jeffers Theatre, September 6th through September 14th.

Returning to HCT's Pam Livingstone Stage—as musically talented college student Zoey Chambers, and conflicted child of divorce Alice Woodward—is Sarah Deutsch.

Deutsch is a Physics PhD candidate at Cornell University (from which she currently holds a Masters Degree) who resides in Statesville. She is a competitive pole dancer and rock climber who enjoys sewing in her free time. And, in what may be a first for any HCT performer, but not for someone pursuing a Physics PhD, Deutsch is the actor most likely to have visited the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Right on.

Deutsch made her Hickory Community Theatre debut as Olga/Paulina in ANASTASIA. Other area credits include FOOTLOOSE at Theatre Statesville, and THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS at Lee Street Theatre, where Deutsch will be performing in their upcoming production of LIZZIE.

"I have been a fan of Starkid for years," says Deutsch, who is thrilled to be performing in THE GUY WHO DIDN'T LIKE MUSICALS alongside so many of her HCT friends.

Performances of THE GUY WHO DIDN'T LIKE MUSICALS are Fridays and Saturdays, September 6th through September 14th at 7:30 PM; Sunday, September 8th at 2:30PM; and Thursday, September 12th at 7:30PM. Tickets are $18 for adults, $12 for youth and students.

Tickets are available online at hickorytheatre.org, or by phone at 828-328-2283. The theatre box office is open from 12-5 PM Wednesday through Friday, or one half-hour before a performance.

THE GUY WHO DIDN'T LIKE MUSICALS is rated PG-13 for adult language and cartoonish violence.

The Hickory Community Theatre’s 76th season is sponsored by Protection Products, Inc. and LifeRootz. HCT is a Funded Affiliate of Arts Culture Catawba and receives additional support from the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
