Let Them Cook: Andrew Monroe is Big Charles in THE HOT WING KING

In Memphis, Tennessee, four close friends join forces for a local cooking contest. But an unexpected visitor soon has the kitchen simmering with more than just hot sauce. Winner of the 2021 Pulitzer Prize, Katori Hall's THE HOT WING KING plays in the Jeffers Theatre January 31st through February 8th.

Making his Hickory Community Theatre debut in this production, as sports fanatic and hot wing aficionado Big Charles, is Andrew Monroe.

Monroe lives and works in Charlotte. He holds a degree from Hofstra Law School. Though this is his first production at HCT, Monroe is already a familiar presence at Lee St. Theatre in Salisbury, where he has appeared in LOMBARDI, HOLIDAY MOVIE MARATHON, and as part of the Outstanding Production Award-winning JEKYLL & HYDE. He has also appeared at The Green Room Community Theatre in SISTER ACT. Monroe appreciates the opportunity to be playing a role that mixes full-court fun with a refreshing reflection on personal identity. "Charles is true to himself in a way that I aspire to be."

Performances of THE HOT WING KING are Fridays and Saturdays, January 31st through February 8th at 7:30 PM; Sunday, February 2nd at 2:30 PM; and, Thursday, February 6th at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $16 for adults, $10 for youth and students.

Tickets are available online at hickorytheatre.org, or by phone at 828-328-2283. The theatre box office is open from 12-5 PM Wednesday through Friday, or one half-hour before a performance.

THE HOT WING KING is rated R. Audience under 17 requires adult guidance.
