Meet Allison Andrews as Queen Elizabeth I in THE PIRATE QUEEN

THE PIRATE QUEEN, a rousing musical adventure based on legendary Irish pirate Grace O'Malley, plays at Hickory Community Theatre through June 18th.

Making a most royal return to the HCT stage in this production, in the role of Queen Elizabeth I, is the one and only Allison Andrews.

Andrews, a drama teacher at Bandy's High School, moved to the Hickory area over 18 years ago. She earned a BA in Theatre Education from Catawba College, and since then has become a familiar fixture in the region through her work in performance, production and education.

Andrews made her Hickory Community Theatre debut as the Fairy Godmother in 2014's SHREK. She has also appeared in JUNK (for which she won a 2017 Outstanding Actress Award from the Southeastern Theatre Conference), RAGTIME (for which she won a 2018 Kay Award for Outstanding Lead Actress), and LEGALLY BLONDE. She has also directed DISNEY'S THE LION KING JR., THE JUNGLE FUN ROOM, and BUGSY MALONE for HCT.

Andrews has also been active at The Green Room Community Theatre, where she has been involved in such productions as SWEENEY TODD, CRIMES OF THE HEART, and MARY POPPINS, and where she recently directed MAMMA MIA. She is also the Music Director at Friendship United Methodist Church.

“I chose to audition for THE PIRATE QUEEN,” Andrews says, “because of the great music in it, and because it’s a show that hasn’t been seen before around here.” She says she enjoys the songs and character of Queen Elizabeth I in the show, and relishes the opportunity to play "an authority figure."

Performances of THE PIRATE QUEEN are Fridays and Saturdays, June 3rd through June18th at 7:30 PM; Sunday, June 12th at 2:30 PM; and, Thursday, June 16th at 7:30 PM.

Opening Night, June 3, features reduced-price tickets: $12 for adults, $10 for youth and students. Tickets for all other performances are $16 for adults, $10 for youth and students.
