THE PIRATE QUEEN, an epic musical adventure from the creators of LES MISÉRABLES, comes to Hickory Community Theatre June 3-18.
Returning to the HCT stage in this production is Ensemble member Paul Sapp.
Sapp's theatrical pursuits began, as they have for so, so many, with an elementary school holiday play. Sapp has continued those pursuits throughout his life—acting, crew...ing, writing and directing—and has been involved in productions in Norfolk, Baltimore, New York, and the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area.
Sapp and his family moved to Hickory about three years ago. Since then, Sapp has been involved in productions for The Green Room Community Theatre, Lenoir-Rhyne University, Brave New Classics, and Hickory Community Theatre. For HCT he has stage managed AMERICAN BUFFALO, THE JUNGLE FUN ROOM, EVITA, BUGSY MALONE, and THE CAKE (for which he was also the assistant director), and has appeared on stage in PUFFS. This November, Sapp is looking forward to directing his first production for HCT: THE LIFESPAN OF A FACT.
Sapp was happily pressed into service for this production of THE PIRATE QUEEN. While he had a brief cameo in EVITA, it has been almost 15 years since Sapp was a full musical Ensemble member. Says Sapp: “I know my family will be chuffed, as the Brits say, to see me singing and dancing and on stage. Or at least trying to."
