THE PIRATE QUEEN, a musical saga based on the life of Irish Chieftain and pirate Grace O'Malley, closes out Hickory Community Theatre’s 73rd season June 3rd-18th.
Returning to the HCT stage in this production as Dubhdara, Chieftain of Clan O'Malley, is J. David Ingle.
Originally from just down the road in Cherryville, Ingle has been a Hickory resident for three decades. He has earned degrees from Appalachian State University and Catawba Valley Community College, and currently works for Profile Products LLC.
Ingle's Hickory Community Theatre credits include Seitz in NEWSIES, Doctor/Sergei in MATILDA, Arthur Stein in END DAYS, and Tateh in RAGTIME. Among his area credits are THE SPONGEBOB MUSICAL at Newton Performing Arts Center, as well as BOEING, BOEING and THE DROWSY CHAPERONE at The Green Room Community Theatre—both of which led to a Most Valuable Cast Member award.
Ingle points to the diversity of plays and performers as what impresses him most about Hickory Community Theatre. "All are welcome," he says. As for THE PIRATE QUEEN, Ingle notes that he was drawn to "the beauty of the music and the story", but what he especially appreciates is the opportunity to play a "strong patriarchal role model for the strong-willed female lead."
Performances of THE PIRATE QUEEN are Fridays and Saturdays, June 3rd through June18th at 7:30 PM; Sunday, June 12th at 2:30 PM; and, Thursday, June 16th at 7:30 PM. Opening Night, June 3, features reduced-price tickets: $12 for adults, $10 for youth and students. Tickets for all other performances are $16 for adults, $10 for youth and students.

Due to the continued risk of COVID-19 in Catawba County, and in accordance with the latest guidance from the CDC, the Hickory Community Theatre encourages patrons to wear a mask or other face covering while inside the building.
THE PIRATE QUEEN is rated PG for on-stage combat, and moments of adult language and sexual insinuation.
