Solo Artists: Alec VanOwen is D. Vicious in AIRNESS

airness  noun :  a state of being in which an air guitarist transcends the moment and medium to achieve pure artistic expression

Kickstart your music-loving heart with Hickory Community Theatre's production of Chelsea Marcantel’s AIRNESS. This love letter to the world of competitive air guitar shreds up the Firemen's Kitchen through this Saturday. Making his Hickory Community Theatre debut as reigning air guitar champ D. Vicious is Alec Van Owen.

Born and raised in Hickory, VanOwen enjoys painting, music and practicing mentalism in his free time. Indeed, VanOwen describes himself as "the actor most likely to read your mind (after a couple of drinks)."

VanOwen recently flashed a Scottish brogue as The Colonel in MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS at The Green Room Community Theatre. Here in AIRNESS, he strikes a similarly commanding pose. "Who doesn't want to be a rock star...even if it's only pretend," VanOwen says. And though his character D. Vicious is the ostensible villain of the show, VanOwen finds plenty to relate to. "Vicious is complex, and I feel for him."

The remaining performances of AIRNESS are Friday and Saturday, May 17th and 18th at 7:30PM. Tickets are $16 for adults, $10 for youth and students.

PLEASE NOTE that the Friday, May 17th show is sold out.

Tickets are available online at hickorytheatre.org, or by phone at 828-328-2283. The theatre box office is open from 12-5 PM Wednesday through Friday, or one half-hour before a performance.

AIRNESS is rated R. Under 17 requires adult guardian.

The Hickory Community Theatre’s 75th season is sponsored by Paramount Automotive, SunBelt Xpress and Green Park Dentistry. HCT is a Funded Affiliate of the United Arts Council of Catawba County and receives additional support from the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
