In a community on the brink of change, the residents of New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood face the future with the same patience, faith and strength of all the generations that came before them. Full of rhythm and heart, winner of four Tony Awards, the hit musical IN THE HEIGHTS plays in the Jeffers Theatre at HCT from June 14th through June 29th.
Making his Hickory Community Theatre debut as Benny, the cab company employee who wants to be in the driver's seat of his own future, is Daniel Keith.
A resident of Charlotte, Keith works as an Esthetician Manager for Face Foundrié-South End while also studying for a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Performance at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte. His Charlotte area performing credits include PUFFS, RENT, and BYE BYE BIRDIE at Piedmont Players Theatre, SEUSSICAL at Matthews Playhouse, and GUYS AND DOLLS at Central Piedmont Arts. Keith is a two-time Broadway World Awards nominee for Best Actor in a Musical.
“Since our first rehearsal, the entire cast, crew and creative team have been so incredibly welcoming to myself an my fiancé,” says Keith of his—and co-star Corina Childs’—first HCT experience. “I am in awe of this beautiful space.”
Keith is also in awe of making his HCT debut as Benny in IN THE HEIGHTS. “Having the opportunity to take part in a Lin-Manuel Miranda show in any facet is a chance I will always take. I love Benny’s pridefulness and ability to stand up for what he thinks is right.”
Performances of IN THE HEIGHTS are Fridays and Saturdays, June 14th through June 29th at 7:30 PM; Sundays, June 16th and June 23rd at 2:30 PM; and, Thursday, June 27th at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $16 for adults, $10 for youth and students.
Tickets are available online at hickorytheatre.org, or by phone at 828-328-2283. The theatre box office is open from 12-5 PM Wednesday through Friday, or one half-hour before a performance.
IN THE HEIGHTS is rated PG-13.
