In New York’s vibrant Washington Heights, hundreds of stories come to life on every block—from bodega owner Usnavi to neighborhood matriarch Abuela Claudia, street artist Graffiti Pete to aspiring stylist Vanessa. Together, they chase their own slice of the American Dream while staying true to where they come from.
An irresistible musical tale of hopes and dreams, generational change, and the importance of tradition, the Tony Award-winning hit IN THE HEIGHTS plays in the Jeffers Theatre at HCT from June 7th through June 29th.
Making her Hickory Community Theatre debut as Vanessa García, the beauty shop employee with big dreams of opening her own salon, is Danielle Banks.
A senior Musical Theatre major at Winthrop University in South Carolina, where she is also President of the "Improv This" performance group, Banks' interest in theatre began in middle school and came to fruition her freshman year of high school. At Winthrop University she has appeared in ROSSUM'S UNIVERSAL ROBOTS, THE COURAGE TO RIGHT A WOMAN'S WRONGS, and NOISES OFF. Though Banks' passion for performance holds a unique place in her heart—"I don't think I'll ever stop acting," she says—she is also thinking bigger picture, with dreams of directing and teaching in the future.
Performances of IN THE HEIGHTS are Fridays and Saturdays, June 7th through June 29th at 7:30 PM; Sundays, June 16th and June 23rd at 2:30 PM; and, Thursday, June 27th at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $16 for adults, $10 for youth and students.
