In a community on the brink of change, the residents of New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood face the future with the same patience, faith and strength of all the generations that came before them. Full of rhythm and heart, winner of four Tony Awards, the hit musical IN THE HEIGHTS plays in the Jeffers Theatre at HCT from June 14th through June 29th.
Returning to the Pamela Livingstone Stage at the Jeffers Theatre as overprotective father Kevin Rosario, and as Piragua Guy—whose icy treats always beat the heat—is Jairo Pereira.
Originally hailing from Freeport, NY, Pereira is a Mental Health Program Manager for A Caring Alternative, as well as a student at Appalachian State University. He enjoys reading, writing, and watching movies when not working or studying.
Pereira previously appeared at Hickory Community Theatre in JUNK and THE FULL MONTY. Other area credits include SHREK THE MUSICAL and LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS. Pereira received a MVP Award from The Green Room Community Theatre for his performance in LAST STOP ON MARKET STREET.
For Periera, the road to performing in IN THE HEIGHTS was paved a long time ago. "As a Hispanic who lived in Washington Heights, it was destiny! And I relate [to Kevin Rosario] because my dad was a farmer."
Pereira continues to be impressed by the quality and caliber of shows at HCT. He also thanks the audience in advance for their grace and understanding, as he considers himself "the actor most likely to forget their choreography or rip their pants on stage."
Performances of IN THE HEIGHTS are Fridays and Saturdays, June 14th through June 29th at 7:30 PM; Sundays, June 16th and June 23rd at 2:30 PM; and, Thursday, June 27th at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $16 for adults, $10 for youth and students.
Tickets are available online at hickorytheatre.org, or by phone at 828-328-2283. The theatre box office is open from 12-5 PM Wednesday through Friday, or one half-hour before a performance.
IN THE HEIGHTS is rated PG-13.
