We're Takin' A Flight: Leslie Roberts plays Camila Rosario in IN THE HEIGHTS

In New York’s vibrant Washington Heights, hundreds of stories come to life on every block—from bodega owner Usnavi to neighborhood matriarch Abuela Claudia, street artist Graffiti Pete to aspiring stylist Vanessa. Together, they chase their own slice of the American Dream while staying true to where they come from.

An irresistible musical tale of hopes and dreams, generational change, and the importance of tradition, the Tony Award-winning hit IN THE HEIGHTS plays in the Jeffers Theatre at HCT from June 21st through June 29th.

Making her Hickory Community Theatre debut as Camila, the mighty mother who wants what's best for her daughter, is Leslie Roberts.

A Charlotte resident, Roberts holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from Appalachian State University, and is an Elementary School teacher in the Carrabus County Schools system. When not teaching or performing Roberts singing, painting, and spending time playing with her dog. Roberts' recent credits, all with Piedmont Players Theatre, include BYE BYE BIRDIE, A GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE TO LOVE AND MURDER, RAGTIME, HEATHERS: THE MUSICAL, and LEGALLY BLONDE.

"I love the story and the heart of the show," Roberts says about IN THE HEIGHTS. Roberts appreciates the welcoming atmosphere at HCT, and the opportunity to play such a strong, universal character on stage. "[Camila] is relatable for so many women who are the glue of their families."

Performances of IN THE HEIGHTS are Fridays and Saturdays, June 21st through June 29th at 7:30 PM; Sunday, June 23rd at 2:30 PM; and, Thursday, June 27th at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $16 for adults, $10 for youth and students.
