We're Takin' A Flight: Meet IN THE HEIGHTS Ensemble member Arlo Alvarez

From Lin-Manuel Miranda and Quiara Alegría Hudes comes IN THE HEIGHTS, a moving musical journey that takes place over three days in New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood. Bursting with song and dance, and alive with the pulse of those who dare to dream, the Tony Award-winning musical plays in the Jeffers Theatre at HCT from June 21st through June 29th.

Returning to the Pamela Livingstone Stage in this unforgettable musical is Ensemble member Arlo Alvarez.

A Granite Falls native now living in Hickory, Alvarez attends South Caldwell High School (Go, Spartans!) and is a member of the International Thespian Society, Beta Club, and National Honor Chorus. In his free time, Alvarez enjoys watching TV, playing chess, and making flowers.

Alvarez made his stage debut at Hickory Community Theatre in this season's production of ANASTASIA. In addition, Alvarez has been a stage crew member for such HCT shows as AIRNESS, EATING BLACKBERRIES, and RIDE THE CYCLONE. Other area onstage and backstage credits include SEUSSICAL JR., 10 WAYS TO SURVIVE THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE, and THE WIZARD OF OZ.

'I love having the opportunity to show my heritage and lineage," says Alvarez of his performance in IN THE HEIGHTS. "And the Ensemble is the heart of a show." Alvarez also enjoys any time he gets to spend with HCT's canine ambassador Sir Samuel, and considers himself "the actor most likely to give everyone gifts." Awwww.

Performances of IN THE HEIGHTS are Fridays and Saturdays, June 21st through June 29th at 7:30 PM; Sunday, June 23rd at 2:30 PM; and, Thursday, June 27th at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $16 for adults, $10 for youth and students.

Tickets are available online at hickorytheatre.org, or by phone at 828-328-2283. The theatre box office is open from 12-5 PM Wednesday through Friday, or one half-hour before a performance.

IN THE HEIGHTS is rated PG-13.

IN THE HEIGHTS is produced in association with Alex Lee, Inc. The Hickory Community Theatre’s 75th season is sponsored by Paramount Automotive, SunBelt Xpress and Green Park Dentistry.
